Love lost for DIY

The British nation has apparently fallen out of love with DIY and are so worried about doing a botch job that they would rather get someone else in to do home improvements.

New data from Woolwich mortgages reveals that half of Brits don't actually like DIY and 75 per cent are fed up of television's saturation with home improvement themed programmes.

A lack of time, fear of making a mistake and preference to devote time to leisure are the three main factors in the demise of Britain's love affair with DIY.

"Home improvements can make a tangible difference to the value of people's homes, but a bad standard of work can drag the price down," said Andy Gray from the Woolwich.

"Savvy buyers can often see through botched DIY jobs, meaning that sellers will either need to drop the price or employ an expert to re-do the task," he added.

The three top jobs people would rather employ an expert for are electrics, plumbing and installing extensions.
