Man taken to court over DIY mansion

A man in Birmingham has created his very own DIY drinking den which he fashioned out of two council houses and a hammer.
Glen Gordon, 40, managed to cause over £6,300 worth of damage when he decided his current council house wasn''t accommodating enough.
The local council agreed to the conversion of his next door house so that Mr Gordon and his family of 13 could live in one larger abode.
However the amalgamated house became a DIY mishap with Mr Gordon turning one room into an amateur sauna by putting a wallpaper steamer in a cupboard.
Extra electrical sockets were fitted as well as windows smashed and the fire alarms disabled.
Another room he turned into a bar and then he apparently held a party where he invited over 100 people to the pad as an after-hours drinking den.
Police say this led to an increase in disturbances on the Durham Estate in Hamstead which is on the outskirts of Birmingham.
