Man uses DIY turbine to save money on bills

One home owner in Cumberland wants to put a two metre high wind turbine on his house in order to cut down on his home electricity.
David Hurd, who lives in Branston, has already insulated his loft and painted his house walls with an impervious paint solution but now he wants to take his home''s green credentials a little further.
He plans to attach a windsafe wind turbine which he bought in a DIY store for around £1,500. This may seem pricey but the manufacturers say that it cuts electricity bills so substantially that he will make his money back in five years.
The turbine starts generating power once wind speed gets to four metres per second which is handy because the average wind speed in the UK is closer to six metres per second so Mr Hurd should be able to generate around a megawatt hour per year.
He has asked his local council for planning permission.
Mr Hurd told his local paper the Cumberland News: "It won''t interfere with anyone else''s view. We''ll try this and if it''s successful we''ll get another one."
