Manchester is the UK's second city

Manchester is the UK's second city for commercial property with an extremely busy market which, though not competing with London, has very strong potential for growth, according to experts.
Alan Burns, who works for a Mancunian estate agents, says that in any country there is always a huge difference between the capital and the provinces, but that Manchester does have a very strong claim to being the second city of the UK as far as commercial property worth is concerned.
He said the city is an attractive place for businesses to locate to because costs are significantly lower than London, yet it still carries international weight.
Mr Burns outlines the attractions as "lower costs obviously the premises costs less, you can pay your staff less because the cost of living is less, [there are] good communications."
A survey by the Mori pollsters has found that 34 per cent of Brits put Manchester ahead of Birmingham in the "second city" stakes despite Birmingham having a much larger population.
