Manchester regeneration plan offers self-build opportunity

Those who want to self build their own homes without having to move away from the city have been offered a new opportunity in an area of Manchester that is being redeveloped.
Developer Urban Splash is to sell 26 plots at the New Islington site near the city centre when it visits the Homebuilding and RenovationShow in Birmingham on April 10th, reports Urban Life.
The plots will be 15 metres long and four or five metres wide, with a height restriction of six stories but unrestricted choice of building materials.
Urban Splash has made the sites available at its experimental Tutti Frutti Street, which is intended to combine an eclectic mix of different styles.
The firm's managing director in Manchester, Richard Oakes, told the magazine: "We know there are tons of people itching to design and build their own homes."
New Islington is one of the districts included in the New East Manchester regeneration body's blueprint, which will see 1,700 new homes constructed on site of the former council estate.
