Microgeneration "the only alternative"

Microgeneration technologies are the only realistic way that Britons are going to be able to move away from grid-based gas, electricity and heating systems, it has been suggested.

The Micropower Council has said that such renovation opportunities also give householders the option to make a "real choice" about how they lead their lives.

Furthermore, the government should provide more assistance in encouraging the use of microgeneration technologies rather than simply providing a "short term solution" via grants, the council added.

"Research has shown that individuals living in homes with microgeneration are far more aware of how they use energy and the importance of environmental issues and that this understanding promotes wider behavioural changes that benefit the environment - whether or not they have installed it themselves," commented a Micropower Council spokesperson.

"[The industry needs] longer term and sustainable support mechanisms, tangible government support in the form of legally binding targets, and action to tackle the many continuing barriers to deployment of these technologies," the spokesperson added.
