Midlands land buyers warned over investment scam

Potential land buyers in the Midlands have been advised to be on their guard following the revelation that several companies offering land in the region could potentially see developers lose out.

At least one of the companies offering land in the Bromsgrove area has gone into liquidation, Bromsgrove District Council has advised.

Consequently potential developers could be at risk, not least because some of the land being advertised is also found within a landscape protection area.

"We are aware [] that at least one of the companies involved in the marketing of the land has gone into liquidation, leaving buyers likely to lose their investment," commented senior enforcement officer Richard Sumner, according to the Bromsgrove Advertiser.

"Prospective purchasers should be aware of planning constraints that apply to the individual areas and that there is no realistic prospect of permission being granted for development of these sites in the foreseeable future," he added.

Similar warnings have been issued in Redditch, with developers also advised to check that planning permission is feasible before investing.
