Minister announces new planning rules on microrenewables

Householders whose renovations include installing microrenewable devices such as solar panels and ground source heat pumps will soon be able to do so without planning permission, it has been announced.
Changes to the law will be introduced on April 6th, meaning such devices can be introduced with no red tape, provided they do not negatively impact anyone else, housing minister Caroline Flint has said.
She stated: "Technology like solar panels can make a real difference, but homeowners can be put off by the time and expense of getting planning permission."
The new rules would give householders more freedom in this area and contribute to the battle against climate change.
Similar plans have also been announced by the Scottish government.
Climate change minister Stewart Stevenson told the parliament in Edinburgh that encouraging such green energy would provide a "significant contribution" to future prosperity in Scotland.
