Minister to attend conference

Housing minister Caroline Flint is to attend a conference on the issue of affordable housing next month, it has been announced.

The Chartered Institute of Housing has announced that its three-day conference and exhibition will take place from June 17th to 19th in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, with Ms Flint opening the event.

Among the issues which the minister and other speakers will address are issues about balancing the creation of affordable homes with building costs, plus issues concerning the maintenance and renovation of existing stock.

The role of self build may well be discussed as one of the elements in the search for new ideas and solutions.

In a question and answer session in the Independent this week, Ms Flint said that many areas of Britain other than the south-east needed extra homes building, such as the vicinities of Lincoln, Birmingham and Plymouth.
