Modern housing ''better than period''

Home seekers are increasingly looking for properties with modern features rather than ones with period talking points, according to one property expert.

Alexander Hunt, the head of the country house department at Cluttons property consultant, said that those looking for homes are now seeing the advantages of modern housing.

This is due to newer builds invariably being built to a higher standard than older, more period accommodation.

He said: "You have got technology in the house with regard to speakers, hi-fi systems, water softeners and pressurised heating systems.

"All the sort of modern insulation qualities of a new home are in those where the period ones aren''t."

He also added that there are some great savings to be made on energy bills when plumping for a newer home because of the improved insulation in these abodes.

Energy surveys are being introduced this year so people may become much more aware of the relative merits of period and new properties.
