More homes planned for Yorkshire

The government has announced that it is to increase the number of homes planned for Yorkshire and Humber in an effort to meet housing targets, boosting housing growth to over 22,000 new homes a year.

The House of Lords' minister for housing Baroness Andrews has said that many different schemes, including shared ownership, family housing and social housing projects, would be available across the region and across the country in order to help ease affordability problems.

New developments in the region will also be subject to new planning laws designed to minimise flood risk, 24dash.com has reported.

"Yorkshire and Humber is a thriving region with a great future, and in order to support and encourage high job growth, we need to build more homes supported by integrated transport and increased green spaces, Baroness Andrews announced, according to the website.

Meanwhile, local MP Hugh Bayley has said that an area between York and Leeds should be the site of one of the government's ten eco-towns, according to the York Press.
