More money needed for microgeneration

Chancellor Gordon Brown will be delivering his budget on Wednesday and many are expecting it to contain money for granting microgeneration funds for low carbon buildings in the UK.

Dr Gordon Edge, who is the head of offshore at the British Wind Energy Association, says that lots of people require a little money for their microgeneration projects and a larger fund from the government would be a welcome move.

He said: "It would be very nice if we had some more money because frankly there isn''t enough in the Low Carbon Buildings Programme."

Dr Edge said that microgeneration can play a part in the UK reaching the Energy Efficiency Commitments which the government is so eager to achieve.

Back in December the government capped the number of microgeneration grants available because the Department for Trade and Industry has been spending more as the trend of microgeneration takes off.

March''s fund of £1 million for 450 grants was taken up in just two hours.
