More people applying for ''microgeneration grants''

Public awareness of the importance of making homes energy efficient is increasing with more people seeking microgeneration grants, according to experts.
The Department for Trade and Industry has found that microgeneration schemes adapt properties to become lower emitters of carbon dioxide and they have seen a much increased demand for the grants.
David Meechan, a spokesperson for the department, said: "The householder grant have this monthly cap on them and at the beginning of the month we open them up for applications.
"All the money this month was gone within an hour and 15 minutes so that does suggest there is awareness out there."
He added that a Community Renewables Initiative is arousing interest from the public because it explains how green adaptations on homes work and makes people more aware of how to fund their projects and apply for planning permission for them.
