Moving up North ''pays off''

Moving up North

High prices in London mean that many people are choosing to relocate to the north where they build their own home, rent or look for another property, according to experts.

Kate Hamilton, the editor of Homes & Property magazine, says that northern cities like Manchester and Leeds offer the crucially similar job opportunities to London but with much lower property prices making it an attractive package to many home seekers.

"First time buyers have to be much more creative than they were this time ten years ago," she said.

"Property prices have just gone through the roof and the traditional saving for a couple of years to get your deposit isn''t as practical as it once was."

She said that particularly for first time buyers it is an attractive prospect to buy a plot of land up north and build on it because even taking into account London salary weightings, it is much cheaper to live up there.
