NAEA in green home tax break call

Measures which make homes more energy efficient should be exempt from VAT, the National Association of Estate Agents has said.
In its list of property-related tax proposals ahead of next month's budget, the body suggested the exemption should be put in place to encourage householders to make their homes greener.
NAEA president Stewart Lilly claimed the idea would help existing homes much more than "measures with big words and little substance" such as zero-carbon homes and home information packs.
While Mr Lilly's concern centred on incentives to make existing homes greener, such tax measures could also help those involved in the self build of their own homes to make them more eco-friendly at a lower cost.
A survey by property website Thinkproperty.com revealed this week that 80 per cent of respondents wanted to see the government provide incentives for householders to fit energy-efficient devices in their homes.
