Neighbours, crime top reasons for Brits moving

The long running BBC TV show''s slogan "Everybody needs a good neighbour" might just be an important priority for many Britons.

A new survey carried out by one mortgage lender shows that numerous homeowners are moving to get away from so-called "neighbours from hell".

The survey estimates that some 4.5 million Britons have put up their land for sale as a result of irksome neighbours.

Some 5.3 million people also said they had moved home in the last five years out, influenced by a desire to buy a plot of land in less crime-ridden areas.

Another priority for homeowners was education, with 2.6 million having moved home in the last five years to move into the catchment area of schools for their children.

Sarah Speight, editor of the Whathouse website, said: "Expectations among buyers are becoming more sophisticated and people are relocating further and more frequently in pursuit of the right location."

Ms Speight also said that increasing numbers of consumers were choosing an online website to search for properties.
