Neighbours 'should work together' to help environment

Published: 23/08/2007

Neighbours

Global Action Plan has said that neighbours or small groups of homeowners should collaborate on ways to cut down on energy waste and improve the eco-friendliness of both the materials used within their properties and the homes themselves.

The environmental organisation has said that it encourages households to work together in this way and to "bounce ideas off each other".

Other more typical efforts to boost sustainability that could be considered are shopping at farmers' markets, buying energy efficient lightbulbs and following the three 'R's - reduce, re-use and recycle, the group added.

"Working in small groups is best" commented Global Action Plan communications manager Amy Sims.

"It is really good to have the support of other people. You might want to conserve water but you're not sure how and then your neighbour may have a suggestion like installing a water butt or re-using the water you wash your fruit and vegetables with to water your plants," Ms Sims added.
