New brownfield recommendations unveiled

English Partnerships has published new recommendations for the UK's brownfield land in an effort to ensure that such areas are no longer neglected, it has been revealed.
The report found that the areas of the country with the highest proportion of derelict land were largely those that were found to be the most deprived the north-east, the north-west, the West Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber, according to the Green Building Press.
Over 63,000 hectares of brownfield land still exist in England, much of which could be used for housing developments, the industry publication notes.
Last month the Construction Products Association (CPA) said that the confusion surrounding the acquisition of brownfield land was preventing further development from taking place.
"We believe that the limited take-up of the LRR [Land Remediation Relief scheme] in large part reflects the significant risks and uncertainties faced by a third party in acquiring contaminated sites and undertaking remedial work," advised Allan Wilen, economics director at the CPA.
