New build homes 'more energy efficient'

New build homes

New build homes are better when it comes to saving energy and lowering household fuel bills, a housing firm has stated.

Persimmon Homes said that the better insulation and other attributes of the average new home mean that it will emit 60 per cent less carbon than an older home, while the average energy saving will be worth £500 a year.

Sales manager for Persimmon Homes Mercia Claire Jarvis said: "A saving of £500 could make a big difference in helping consumers counteract rising living costs without having to cut back on the luxuries they enjoy."

Those keen to obtain a new home that enjoys greater energy efficiency may use the self build method as an alternative to buying a new home.

A committee of MPs has warned that energy bills are likely to go on rising, despite finding no evidence of collusion in pricing between the six main energy firms in the UK market.
