New eco-home built using innovative materials

An award-winning home has been built on a brownfield site in Brighton using a variety of innovative building materials, it has been revealed.

The £200,000 property secured an award at the Green Apple Silver Awards and features numerous environmentally friendly features, 24dash.com has advised.

Materials such as chestnut cladding and sheep's wool insulation are among the more unusual selections used in order to reduce the carbon footprint of the home, the website notes.

"The result is a fine balancing act that optimises all available space at the site while simultaneously meeting the needs of the client, local residents and Brighton & Hove Council's planning department," commented Simon Atkins, a director at the architects responsible for designing the development

"If more new houses like this one were built, Brighton and Hove would seriously reduce its carbon footprint while the population would enjoy lower energy bills," Mr Atkins added.
Zero-carbon homes are inspected to play an increasingly prominent part in UK housebuilding over the coming years, with Gordon Brown eager to meet environmental targets.
