New figures show house price rise

House prices in England and Wales rose in November, according to figures from the Land Registry.
The government body said the average house price in the month was £186,009, up 0.6 per cent on October and 8.1 per cent higher than the previous year.
London saw 1.1 per cent growth to remain on an annual rate of 15.6 per cent.
The capital had the highest house price growth of any region, followed by the West Midlands on one per cent and Wales on 0.7 per cent.
Every region saw prices grow bar the east Midlands, where prices remained static and the north-east where there was a 0.9 per cent fall.
The figures for Wales may provide support for claims by estate agents there that prices will enjoy a modest rise in 2008.
Such claims contrast with a forecast by accountants Grant Thornton that Welsh prices may drop by as much as ten per cent this year, Landlord Expert reports.
