New homes 'are more energy-efficient'

Buying a new-build property is more energy efficient and cheaper to run than older homes, it has been claimed by one homebuilder.
Redrow has said that new-builds boast efficient heating and insulation, which means they produce fewer emissions that are harmful to the environment.
As such, they can be up to four times more energy efficient than older homes, leading to saving of £1 for every £3 spent.
Redrow group marketing director Simon Bennett said: "Whilst at first glance a second hand home might appear to be cheaper, renovating an old house to the same standards as a new one could see you forking out over £20,000."
Water bills are likely to be lower in a new home because of efficient water appliances and better drainage systems, according to Redrow.
David Cameron, leader of the Conservatives, recently announced his support of the Federation of Master Builders, which is calling for a government commitment to low-carbon and sustainable communities.
