New school to educate about construction

A new high-tech school in the north-west is to educate people about construction skills.

Based at Preston City Council''s Argyll Road depot, the new scheme will enable people to learn and develop the vital skills needed in all areas of construction and house building including bricklaying, plastering, decorating and painting.

It is hoped that the project, which is a joint venture between Preston City Council, Preston College and the North West Learning and Skills Council, will provide a valuable centre for those looking to update or gain new skills as well as providing support for those looking to pursue a career in the industry.

Mayor of Preston Bill Tyson, said: "The centre is an excellent facility that will give people the chance to develop all the skills they need to work in construction."

He added: "You''ll always need painters, plasterers, bricklayers and joiners, and hopefully this new centre will encourage even more talented youngsters, as well as people from other industries, to move into construction."
