New solutions for saving water at home

Castaway star Ben Fogle is to front a new campaign which aims to help solve the water shortage problems of the UK.

A new range of water saving products are being launched by home superstore B&Q because the UK is estimated to have less water per person than almost every other European country.

Products such as water butts and click save taps will greatly reduce the flow of water so that homes and businesses can become more energy efficient and more actively involved in solving water problems.

Jacob Tompkins, who directs campaign group Waterwise, said: "Each person in the UK currently uses about 150 litres of water every day.

"This consumption level is not sustainable in the long term and if we do not take action now, climate change, population shifts and behaviour mean the UK will face increased water stress in the future."

A few ways of saving water in the home include using the minimum amount of water needed when boiling the kettle and washing your vegetables in a bowl rather than in the sink.
