New web-based service to find trades people quickly

A young entrepreneur has come up with a way to stamp out the risk of having a cowboy do your home improvements.

Sophie Hurford has started up a website called whoocan.com which saves consumers time because it means the onus is on trades people sending you quotes rather than you chasing them for quotes.

To use the site, people just post details of the work they need doing and then builders and plumbers respond with their quotes, ready for comparison by the poster.

A ratings system will allow people to see at a glance who is the best choice.

Ms Hurford trialled the product in Cambridgeshire and said: "From market research we carried out when developing the service it was clear that the public were crying out for something more advanced and useful than just a directory."

She says that people need help with sourcing reliable people and they want to reduce the time spent finding them.

All service providers from electricians to curtain makers to personal trainers can totut for business and the ads are free to place.
