NHBC publishes new guidelines for builders

The National House-Building Council (NHBC) has published new guidelines for builders outlining the ways in which new environmentally friendly technologies can be integrated into new homes.

Advice regarding both microgeneration technologies and green roofs has been issued in an attempt to aid builders in the efforts to implement the new systems.

The NHBC has said that the guidelines will ensure that "homeowners are not used as guinea pigs" when it comes to installing the likes of solar water heating systems or wind turbines.

The roofing guidance comes as part of a new set of Technical Standards that come into effect on September 1st.

"NHBC is supporting the rapidly emerging environmental and sustainability agendas with this new guidance. As increasing numbers of builders and developers opt for green roofs in the drive to fulfil environmental objectives it is vital that they have the necessary guidance to ensure that roofs are designed and constructed to last for the benefit of consumers," advised NHBC head of standards Peter Crane.
