Nomadic lifestyles as Brits move home 16 times

Britain is turning into a nation of nomads with the average person swapping homes 16 times in a lifetime, according to a new report.

This is about 11 times more than the amount of times the last generation moved home with those aged over 65 only having moved around five times per lifetime, according to the research by the Daily Mail''s Ideal Home Show.

Caroline Carr, from the show, said: "It is amazing to think how many people are boxing up all their possessions every day of the year."

It takes around ten days to organise and pack for a move so each person spends around 160 days organising their home moving in a lifetime.

From childhood home, to university halls, to renting in house shares, buying a first home, living in a family home and then downsizing upon retirement it seems the old adage of a "home for life" is long gone for modern Brits.

High stamp duty, mortgage repayments, house prices and moving costs mean that sometimes it is cheaper to stay put than to move, according to researchers at Hometrack.
