Normandy Earthship gets green light

The first totally sustainable Earthship home has been mooted for development on land in a small village in Normandy, France.

The premise of the Earthship, which could be a viable building project in the UK in time, is that the property is made entirely from natural materials.

Brighton-based Kevin Trott and his partner Gillian were inspired to produce the eco-friendly new-build after visiting an Earthship community in New Mexico in 2005.

The couple''s Earthship will be predominantly made out of recycled car tyres, with their disposal of becoming increasingly difficult.

Combined with compacted earth to form an earth brick, such buildings are resistant to almost any force.

The Earthship will also derive all its energy from the sun and wind, while water will be stored from rain and snow melt.

In a further eco-friendly feature, the couple will also treat all their sewerage on site.
