Northerners ''attracted to property auctions''

Northerners are going to property auctions in their droves, according to one property expert.
David Sandeman, from property data group the Essential Information Group, says that though auctions are popular with home seekers from across the country, there are many very large sales going on in the north.
London has some of the best known auction houses but cities like Manchester and Leeds are really taking off at the moment with auction houses heading north rather than just having northern bidders on the phone at London events.
Mr Sandeman said: "In Liverpool there are a couple of big auction houses, and in Manchester and Leeds there are people holding 100 lot-plus sales.
"So you do get big sales all over the country, it is a nationwide thing."
Internet access and a more open attitude among home buyers is credited with increasing the numbers attending auctions with many people keen on a vast renovation project and seeking ramshackle abodes which they can do up.
