Now 'a good time to self build eco homes'

Those who are thinking of creating their own eco home using the self build method should find that now is a good time to do it, the managing director of an eco-homes company has suggested.
Julian Brooks of Green Moves said that in the credit crunch the cost of land was coming down, which meant it was a favourable time to purchase a plot.
He also commented that planners were well disposed to those looking to create eco homes, observing: "They do look more favourably upon exceptional sustainable housing projects compared to just any old house builder putting up their standard fare."
Mr Brooks said his own firm had more contacts than before from people keen to get a plot on which to self build an eco home.
In its planning policy statement published in December 2007 the government gave regional planning bodies guidelines which emphasised that sustainability and renewable energy devices should play a central role in new developments.
