Now is good time for green renovations, suggests housebuilder

Those wanting to live in new and eco-friendly homes with features that will help save energy could not pick a better time than now, it has been suggested.

Housing firm Persimmon Homes noted that the BBC has reported that domestic energy bills could rise by as much as 40 per cent in the next few months, making for an expensive winter for those who have to spend a lot heating energy inefficient homes.

The company's sales director in the Severn Valley, Nina Hester, said: "The financial saving associated with a new home could make a huge impact on home owners' disposable income."

While Ms Hester was recommending that people sought to buy one of the new homes the company had built, others might want to consider the self build method, partly to try to save money on the building cost, but also to ensure the home has the best energy efficient and eco friendly features.

At the Chartered Institute of Housing annual conference in Harrogate today, a book was launched entitled Housing, the Environment and Our Changing Climate, which focuses on how making homes more energy efficient can help cut Britain's overall carbon emissions, the body stated.
