Olympics ''should go for green''

The housing industry must act to make property developments more sustainable, according to experts.
Sunand Prasad, the president elect of the Royal Institute of British Architects said yesterday that the Olympic Delivery Authority should try to set some high aims for the sustainability of the Olympic Village.
Currently the target is for the village''s homes to be 25 per cent more energy efficient than the average UK home but Mr Prasad said this is a lowly aim when you consider that all UK homes must be carbon neutral by 2016.
He said: "There is no doubt at all that this is extremely urgent now and every day something new comes along which actually makes that urgency even greater."
However despite claims of a "green Olympics" locals who use the Manor Garden Allotments are angry that their 100-year-old vegetable gardens are to be bulldozed in order to build facilities for the games.
