Orchid 'demolishes' Jagger's ecohome

The discovery of a rare orchid has disrupted plans for a £1 million ecohome in the Cotswolds designed by Jade Jagger, it has been reported.

Fashion designer Jagger has styled the interior of almost 60 glass and timber properties that are being built on a 650-acre estate in the Cotswold Water Park, but one of the properties has lost a battle with an orchid, according to the Telegraph.

Developers have been forced to move the location of a million-pound home by around 1,000 feet after a Epipactis phyllanthes - or Green-flowered Helleborine - was found at the building site.

This highlights the need for those that are considering their own self build ecohome to research the plot of land they are planning to build their dream house upon and seek advice from trained advisors to ensure they have support throughout the length of the project.

Ben Pollard, landscape and ecology manager at the development, said that they had considered moving the orchids but decided against it.

"We agreed with Cotswold District Council planners that it would be too much of a risk so we moved the house instead. The orchid was the winner."
