Over-50s 'more honest' when selling homes

Published: 30/07/2007

Over-50s

Homeowners aged 50 or over are most likely to tell the truth when selling their home, new research from Saga indicates, with the younger generation failing to make the grade.

Saga's study reveals that 74 per cent of the over-50s say they would not lie in order to secure a sale, compared with 60 per cent of those aged under 50.

This figure falls to just 45 per cent when applied to the 18 to 24 demographic, with that age group also the most likely to lie regarding available parking and noisy neighbours.

The research comes as sellers prepare themselves for a changing market, with Matt Mannall of estate agency Knight Frank telling the Times last week that buyers "are in a strong position" after months of sellers dictating terms.

The introduction of Home information packs (Hips) this Wednesday will also mean that sellers now have additional obligations to meet before they can agree to deals for their property.
