People look beyond capital for property

There has been a slight shift away from seeking to live in London, according to one property expert.

UK internal migration has seen a six per cent population increase in the south-west region over the last decade according to figures from Halifax, a mortgage provider.

And Firstrung, who specialise in providing solutions to first time buyers, have also reported that people are spreading their search elsewhere than London when looking for an affordable property.

Paul Holmes, the chief executive officer at Firstrung, said: "We were looking at research where this is concerned and it''s following a similar pattern to what happened in the last house market correction, and that was the M11 Corridor that takes you up to Essex and further to Ipswich and Suffolk."

He said that people who do look further afield may have an extra problem when it comes to the struggle of commuting to London-based workplaces.
