Planning reform bill to have

Those looking to make major renovations to their homes will be able to benefit from the major changes in building regulations that are on the way, the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has said.

Brian Berry, director of external affairs for the FMB commented that a major change was an ending of restrictions on how much people could expand their homes, which meant people did not have to make difficult choices such as deciding between whether to extend their Kitchen or their loft.

He stated: "It means that people at last can have their loft conversion and extend their kitchen by an extra three metres at the back of the house."

This was a recognition by the government that people have to make the best use of the space they had available while there is a housing shortage, Mr Berry added.

The House of Commons draft of the Planning Reform Bill, which will come into effect in October, describes one of its purposes as "improving quality of life".
