Protect your home from impending cold snap

Thousands of Brits may be unsuspectingly hit by a cold snap predicted to occur next week, according to one report.

The Met Office is warning of arctic winds bringing very cold weather in the first half of next week and this may even include snow, which will damage homes if Brits are not adequately prepared.

To stop this from happening the company has advised homeowners to guard their pipes and lag any exposed water pipes and to ensure that the tops and sides of water tanks are insulated.

Vicky Emmott, from the insurance firm, said: "A sudden unseasonal drop in temperature can wreak havoc on people''s homes and gardens if they are unprepared for it."

Cover young plants in your garden to protect them from frost damage and ensure your loft insulation is not beneath the water tanks in the loft.

Those people taking a holiday to escape the cold weather should turn off their water supply and drain the system or else leave the heating on and set to about ten degrees Celsius.
