Quirky property

Those who take on unusual non-residential buildings and renovate them to become homes will find that this attracts a price premium if and when they are sold on, an expert on the subject has stated.

Jessica Clark, home party manager at unusual home firm Unique Home Stays, said: "Most people who buy quirky properties tend to stay in them for many years, so they don't come on the market as often as the standard house, but they can charge a premium for those properties."

However, she said, the flip side of gaining this premium was then they did try to sell them on they would often be on the market for a long time before the buyer looking for something unique found exactly what they were looking for.

Unique homes created by innovative renovations include converted windmills and lighthouses.

One fictional character who may have inspired some with the idea of living in a windmill was the BBC TV character Jonathan Creek.
