Renovation show offers lofty idea

Homeowners planning to renovate their home to boost its market value amid falling house prices can do so with a loft conversion, it has been suggested.

Organisers of the Scottish Homebuilding and Renovationshow, due to be held on May 17th and 18th in Glasgow, have quoted research from Halifax as proof that such a move is the best thing that can be done to raise the value of a home.

The move is one of the top ten tips offered to householders ahead of the show to beat the housing market blues, with the recommendation that such a conversion involves adding a bedroom and an en-suite bathroom.

Other tips include improving windows, bathrooms and kitchens or building a conservatory.

More valuable homes are currently performing disproportionately well in the housing market at present, according to research from the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR).

CEBR figures for last month show that the 20 per cent of most valuable homes increased that value by an average of 0.5 per cent, in contrast with the least valuable 20 per cent which declined by 0.2 per cent, estate agency Chesterton reports.
