Rochdale benefits from green housing drive

A number of new homes in the Hamer district of Rochdale have been fitted with new energy-saving features, a move which could set a precedent for future building.
The £967,000 three-home development completed by the West Pennine Housing Association includes features such as double glazed windows and insulated walls and roofs.
The project has also seen the homes fitted with low-flush toilets, spray taps and showers, while water butts will allow rainwater to be collected for use in home gardens, reports the Green Building Press.
Angela Forster, neighbourhood programme manager for housing market renewal, said the building on the plot might be "first of many housing projects the Pathfinder has in the pipeline to help transform neighbourhoods across Rochdale".
The ten houses on the plot which have made way for the new build were purchased from the Oldham Rochdale Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder.
