Ruling states wind farms harm house prices

House prices can be negatively affected by the proximity of wind turbines, a judge has ruled.

The news emerged following Yourmaidstone's report of the case of Jane Davis, a householder in Lincolnshire who has successfully applied in court to get a discount on her council tax due to it being 1,000 metres from a turbine, Kent News reports.

As a result, the portal states, developments such as the proposed 127-ft high turbine at Marden in the Weald could see their house values fall there.

Ms Davis was quoted by the portal as saying: "There are many, many people living in middle England who have worked hard all their lives and yet will see the value of their homes suddenly diminish."
Those who are keen to avoid buying homes near proposed wind turbines may carry out a plot search in an area with low levels of wind, which would make it less likely for turbines to be established nearby.

Figures from the British Wind Energy Association state that there are now 2,033 turbines in 176 different projects across the UK.
