Rural planning network to be launched by RTPI

The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) is to launch a new network designed to bring together experts to discuss housing issues facing local communities, it has been revealed.

The Rural Planning Network will be launched on Thursday June 14th as part of the organisation's Planning Convention, and will focus on issues central to housing in the countryside.

The supply of housing and alterations to green belt policies will be two of the issues central to the agenda, the RTPI has advised.

"The network will push rural planning issues further up the agenda, both within planning and, we hope, with government. It is through sharing information, experience and expertise that we will provide innovative and realistic solutions to many of the problems faced by rural communities," revealed the network's manager, Rhian Brimble.

"The CRC warmly welcomes the launch of the Rural Planning Network. It is especially timely in the wake of the new Planning White Paper," added Trevor Cherrett of the Commission for Rural Communities.

House prices in rural areas have far exceeded local earnings in many cases, it was advised last week.
