Scottish house prices up again

While many looking to get on the housing ladder elsewhere in Britain may hope for house prices to continue to fall in order to be more affordable, those living in Scotland are still seeing prices rise.
Lloyds TSB Scotland figures released today show that the average house price in Scotland was up by 1.6 per cent in the three months to July 2008, to £172,185.
This made the annual increase in prices 9.3 per cent.
While this may be good news for investors or those looking to sell a home, people who may have difficulty affording a house could be disappointed.
Some may consider the self build option as a way of potentially getting on the ladder at a lower cost.
In addition to the Lloyds TSB figures, the Department for Communities and Local Government has also recorded an annual increase in Scottish prices.
This survey indicated a rise of 5.7 per cent in the year to June.
