Search fee in Birmingham

There's some good news for people trying to sell up in Birmingham as the city council has announced search fees for local land charges are soon to be halved, providing them with an unexpected bonus.

With the introduction of Home Information Packs (Hips) on June 1st, people selling their homes will be required to provide information such as search fees to prospective buyers.

This fee is currently £140 but Birmingham City Council wants to reduce it to £75 when Hips become compulsory.

Ken Hardeman, a councillor on the council, said: "We want people selling and buying property in Birmingham to get the best possible service when making search enquiries.

"The Council has always prided itself on the quality of the information provided and the speed of service (currently 2/3 days) but with the proposed fee reduction we are also able to offer the service at a very competitive price."
