Secret passageways ''improve house prices''

Secret passageways

It may sound like something you would find in a game of Cluedo, but secret passageways and hidden doorways can add significant value to the price of a home.

According to the estate agent Knight Frank, buyers today are increasingly moving away from nondescript, modern homes and turning their attention towards homes with more character.

And what better way to create character than by adding secret passageways that link one room to another or concealed doorways that hide unsightly storage areas.

Some older properties, particularly in the north of England, may still have secret passageways and tunnels built within them. But such features are rare, especially in more urban areas in the south.

However, as Knight Frank explains, it can be relatively cheap to give a modern, London home a little more character by having secret passages and hideaways built in.

Some construction company specialise in adding these interesting quirks to otherwise uninspiring homes, allowing homeowners to improve the look of their home, add more storage space or install nifty security features.

Knight Frank says that secret passageways will not only attract more buyers to view the home, out of curiosity if nothing else, but they will also push up the price once they start bidding for what will ultimately be a unique property.
