Selby eco town plans thrown out

Those hoping to live in an eco home in the Selby area of West Yorkshire may have a new reason to consider self build as a way of achieving this after plans for an eco town in the area were ditched.
When the government announced its shortlist of 15 possible sites in the spring, an unspecified site in the urban area centred on Leeds was listed among them, with councillors to choose the exact location.
However, the four potential sites identified - all in Selby - were rejected by councillors from across the region.
Consultants had identified a site at Gascoigne Wood as the best proposal, but this was voted down.
The opposition to eco towns in many areas may even lead to the government downsizing the project, the Daily Telegraph reports.
It notes that under secretary of state for housing, Baroness Andrews, has admitted that as few as five could end up being built.
