Self-build gets the Ground Force treatment

One ex Ground Force presenter has been busy with his latest project where he will create a self-build property with environmental credentials at an affordable price.
Tommy Walsh, who used to be Alan Titchmarsh''s sidekick, is now creating an eco-friendly bespoke property in the Fens village of March. Their budget includes a plot of land for £60,000 and all the building materials and labour for another £60,000.
The two bedroom property may feature a wind turbine so that the home has the capacity to generate domestic electricity or any other environmental touches because Tommy is exploring all the options.
He said: "Around 20 per cent of new properties in Britain each year are the result of people building their own homes.
"It is a massive trend and it is one that we want to be able to contribute to."
He said he is delighted that Fenland District Council is so ecologically-friendly and so keen to help him develop this project which takes inspiration from attempts to build one million green homes in the Thames Gateway.
