Self-build in a nutshell

Self-build is becoming an increasingly popular property solution as housing prices seem to rise every month.

The main thing to think about when deciding to build your own property is where it will be located and land is typically the hardest part of the entire process. In the UK finding a plot of land can be laborious but many providers can take this stress off your shoulders.

Get in touch with your local council's development planners to see where land is available in your area or look through the Land Registry's online maps for possible plots.

Then you will need to consider your finances and work out a budget and possibly a special self-builder's mortgage. Hire an architect to get some idea of projected costs and to begin the crucial design process.

Once all this is done then building can begin and you may want to hire professional and reasonably-priced tradespeople to do this part for you.
