Self-builders prefer three-storey houses

An interesting change in the property market is the preference of tall homes over wide ones.
Over 1,000 people have been surveyed by a house builder called Redrow who found that three-storey living is on the rise with people choosing height over width.
This is because planning regulations promote the need to be economic with land so houses move upward rather than outward.
"Whilst three-storey living was popular back in Victorian times, living spread over three floors today is a contemporary solution to modern day life," said Simon Bennett from Redrow.
"We''ve found that buyers at all stages of the property buying ladder appreciate its appeal from young families right through to empty nesters."
Three storeys also allow owners to be more flexible and creative with a first floor living space adding an extra bit of privacy or creating a new place for teenagers to study or work independently.
