Self build and renovation the best way, say Devonians

A survey of homeowners in Devon has revealed that this group believes the best way to invest in 2008 is through self build or home renovation.
The survey, carried out on behalf of the Federation of Master Builders' Master Builder of the Year Awards 2008, showed that work on homes was ahead of traditional financial products, the Exeter Express and echo reports.
Rather than investing in Isas, bonds or shares 60 per cent of women and 50 per cent of men who were homeowners said that renovating their homes to add value was a better move.
In contrast, only a quarter thought Isas were the best investment.
The paper noted that Devon has the highest proportion of redesigned gardens in Britain, with 67 per cent of householders having done so.
Earlier this month B&Q said that the most popular parts of the house for renovation work also included kitchens, bathrooms and floors.
